Brown fused aluminium oxide is a basic abrasive


Brown fused aluminium oxide can be used to produce the grinding wheel, sandblasting, and grinding materials commonly used in production by using brown fused aluminium oxide abrasives. Brown fused aluminium oxide is made by melting with high-quality alumina, iron filings, and smokeless coal in an arc at high temperature. After being crushed and shaped by a self-grinding machine, it is selected by magnetic separation to remove iron and sieved into various particle sizes. The main chemical composition is AL2O3, with a content of 94%-96%, and also contains a small amount of Fe, Si, Ti, etc.

  • Crushing method: brown fused aluminium oxide has a considerable difference in particle size and shape according to different crushing methods. Common crushing methods include two-roll, ball milling, BMK, rod mill, self-grinding machine, and cone crusher. Due to the high toughness of brown fused aluminium oxide, the crushing capacity of rod mills and cone crushers is poor, the maintenance workload is large, and the particle shape and bulk density are equivalent to ball mills.


Self-grinding machines have a large investment scale, many materials in the production process, and the particle shape and bulk density are not better than rod mills, so in recent years, most processing companies mainly use two-roll, ball mill, and BMK.


  • Two-roll machine: due to its small investment scale, simple process, yield of finished products is about 85%, low processing cost, currently, the vast majority of small processing companies use it. However, the particle size of the processed abrasive is mainly needle-shaped, flake-shaped, and strip-shaped, with low bulk density and poor toughness.


  • Ball mill: due to its moderate investment, relatively complex production process compared to two-roll processing, small maintenance workload during the service life, product yield is about 80%, moderate processing cost, currently, it still occupies a certain proportion in brown fused aluminium oxide abrasive processing companies. The processed abrasive has a predominance of flake and spherical particle size, and both bulk density and toughness are higher than those of two-roll machines.


  • BMK: due to large investment, relatively complex process, high maintenance workload during the service life, low product yield, high processing cost, only a very few brown fused aluminium oxide abrasive processing companies use it. However, the processed abrasive has a predominance of equal size particles, high bulk density, and good toughness.


The smelting process of brown fused aluminium oxide mainly consists of four stages: furnace opening, melting, control, and refining. Melting accounts for more than 80% of the total refining time. In this stage, the furnace material is melted into a liquid, and impurities are reduced to generate silicon-iron alloy and separate it from the corundum melt. Refining is the final stage, aiming to fully reduce impurities, precipitate and gather silicon-iron alloy, and discharge the gas inside the furnace smoothly.
